Cyprus Minister of Agriculture supports the AGRICYGEN project

During an interview he gave in "Phileleftheros", the most popular newspaper in Cyprus,
Minister of Agiculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Costas Kadis, mentioned the AGRICYGEN project and it's overall objective to assist the Haloumi cheese obtain the muct desired PDO certification.
Mr. Kadis mentioned among other things that "[...] we have evidence that the measures that the Cypriot Rural Development Program is to increase the production of sheep and goa milk yield. The Agriculture Research Institute is currently in the process of desiging a research centre of excellence for genetically improving sheep and goats, thus increasing their milk yield, with the support of the European Commission".
This project will have a budget of approximately 30 million euro. The European Commission will provide 15 mil. EUR (which will mainly cover personnel costs). The Cypriot government will match the European Contribution, (who's costs will mainly cover Infrastructure and Equipment costs - among other things).
